Director of Major Gifts

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University and its sister organization,
the Institute for Humane Studies (IHS), seek a Director of Major Gifts to
join a fast-paced and growing development team.  Responsibilities include
the planning and implementation of major gift strategies for prospective and
current individuals and/or foundations.

Ideal candidates will have professional development experience as a
front-line fundraiser with a track record of results and a demonstrated
ability to take on significant responsibility.  An appreciation for the
missions of each organization is a must.  Candidates must also be
detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills, be entrepreneurial,
and appreciate teamwork.  The Director of Major Gifts will have a high level
of responsibility over his/her projects and must be a self-starter.

Management experience is a plus.  The ability and willingness to travel is a
requirement for the position.

Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience.  In

Regulatory Studies Program Associate

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking applications for
the position of Program Associate for its Regulatory Studies Program and
Government Accountability Project.  These projects combine applied scholarly
research and educational outreach to improve regulatory and executive policy
outcomes, and train students and policy makers in rigorous analytical
techniques.  Specifically, Mercatus and affiliated scholars engage in
research to examine the costs and consequences of policy decisions, and work
with policymakers at the state and federal level to improve the policy
process by enabling a focus on public benefits and results.

The Program Associate will initially be responsible for:

Working with Mercatus senior scholars and policymakers at the federal and
state levels to ensure that Mercatus research is communicated to relevant
audiences.
Managing email contact lists, composing HTML emails, and performing routine
maintenance on sections of the Mercatus web site and supporting pages.
Planning and executing symposiums and conferences that bring together
Mercatus scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
Tracking results of RSP/GAP publications and performance metrics by
measurement in the public record and through other relevant systems.
Assisting the Managing Director for the Regulatory Studies Program and
Government Accountability Project (RSP/GAP) and the Associate Director of
the Regulatory Studies Program with administrative and research tasks,
including tracking programmatic budgets.
Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the projects by
participating in relevant Mercatus staff meetings and other internal and
external outreach opportunities.
The Program Associate will report to the Managing Director of RSP/GAP and
the Associate Director of the Regulatory Studies Program, and
responsibilities of the position have the potential to grow quickly over
time as the projects continue to expand.  Qualified candidates will have
expressed interest in government accountability, regulatory policy or
related fields, exceptional interpersonal skills, and demonstrated interest
and capabilities in working with both scholars and policymakers.  Successful
candidates will possess a strong commitment to individual freedom.

RFP: Graphic Design for Printed Manual

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

Graphic Designer

Issued: August 21, 2007

Purpose

To create a design and layout for a printed manual, The Community Technology Center Operating Manual. The design will include cover design, page layout, logo creation, color scheme selection, and binding.

Background on CTCNet’s Operating Manual

The philosophy of the operating manual is to support community technology centers and programs (CTCs) in managing the various aspects of their operations by:

Connecting them to resources common to all non-profit organizations (for example, books or websites on fundraising), and

Describing procedures and best practices for topics that are CTC-specific (for example, best practices for running a computer lab).

The CTCNet Operating Manual will pull heavily from the experiences and best practices at CTCs around the country and in different settings.

Background on CTCNet

CTCNet is a national membership network of CTCs and other non-profit organizations. CTCNet is founded on the recognition that in an increasingly technologically dominated society, people who are economically disadvantaged will be left further behind if they are not provided access to and training on information tools., CTCNet works to provide resources and advocacy to build the capacity of CTCs to better serve their communities.

Scope of Graphic Design Work

· Design work will include:

· Cover Design/Layout

· Page Template Design/Layout

· Color Scheme Selection

· Binding Options

· Design Considerations:

· Manual should be designed with the greatest consideration for the end-user – CTC staff and volunteers.

· Users should be able to easily move between chapters.

· Accessibility - Print design should be thoughtful to users with limited vision (e.g., minimum 12 pt., sans-serif font, left justified, with good contrast between text and background and adequate white space.)

· The printed manual contains approximately 200-250 pages of double-sided content.

· Major manual components (chapter titles, sections, etc.) will be provided by CTCNet at the project onset. All final text will be provided by CTCNet in mid-October.

Submission of Proposals & Selection Process

· Successful proposals must include the following:

1. Outline of work, including proposed design approach that will be used for this project.

2. Estimated timeline for completion, including draft review dates. (NOTE: Final design work should be completed and print-ready by October 31, 2007.

3. Costing scenario outlining expected dates for deliverables. Dates are assumed to be relative, and subject to modification, pending initial contract negotiation.

4. Information about the company, including key personnel, range of products and services; and clients, especially non-commercial/non-profit organizations, for which it has performed work similar to that outlined in the request.

5. Work samples and references.

Online Content Coordinator

Program:Digital Strategies, Strategic Marketing + Global Communications
Reports To:Director
Location:Arlington, VA

The Online Content Coordinator (OCC) is responsible for the day-to-day coordination, preparation + Maintenance of content on Conservation.org and subsidiary online products, including the CI eNews Update monthly e-newsletter. The OCC will participate in weekly editorial meetings, manage the editorial calendar for Conservation.org and work directly with the Visual Resources + Editorial teams to pull together timely + relevant multimedia online features. The OCC also will be responsible for maintaining, updating + creating core (non-feature) and programmatic content throughout the site using our content management system (CMS), and will work closely with the Online Marketing + Promotions Coordinator to optimize CI’s use of language and search engine indexing.

Furthermore, the OCC will be responsible for maintaining+ executing integrated + Strategic editorial calendars for CI’s monthly e-newsletter (in direct collaboration with the Sr. Coordinator for Online Campaigns) and for our online discussion series, CI Live. As needed, the OCC will write + edit content to be true to CI’s tone of voice. This position is a key component of the Digital Strategies Team and functions to support the team in its promotion of CI’s brand across the digital platform and achievement of divisional fundraising + site traffic goals.

Responsibilities:

* The primary responsibility of this position is to coordinate, prepare + maintain feature and core content on Conservation.org, as well as write + edit content as directed.
* With colleagues in the Strategic Marketing + Global Communications division and under direct supervision of the Director of Web Strategy + Branding, maintain + execute an integrated + strategic editorial calendar of site publishes, e-newsletter distributions + CI Live or other online events.
* Ensure that all content meets CI scientific and web usability standards, make site changes upon request + serve to help grow the site over time.
* Flag in the CMS global language changes to content managers in other divisions + field offices.
* Work directly with the Director of Web Strategy + Branding to publish Conservation.org and to approve content submissions from other content managers.
* Organize + conduct CI Live discussions on a regular basis; book guests based on environmental topics in the media, feature stories on Conservation.org + fundraising campaigns.
* Write, produce + distribute CI eNews Updates, our monthly e-newsletter, to a growing list of ~100,000 subscribers.
* Work directly with the Online Marketing + Promotions Coordinator to optimize our use of language + keywords online to boost search engine indexing + promote CI content.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
This position is both editorial and technical. It requires a sharp editorial sense, strong writing skills + excellent attention to detail, as well as web production experience, including HTML authoring + photo editing, an understanding of good web design + information architecture, and a working knowledge of content management systems. A four-year degree in communications or a related field is necessary. Must demonstrate experience + comfort in operating in a fact-paced, deadline-oriented setting. S/he will be a self-starter, trustworthy, largely autonomous + quick to learn.

The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of working experience with previous responsibility for website production or development.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Additional technical skills + languages are a plus. Some familiarity with online marketing + communications concepts is preferred.

Bike Sharing Project Manager

Clear Channel Adshel, the firm that is managing our bus shelter and proposed bike sharing program, is hiring a project manager to assist with the development of the SmartBike program.  The position is for 6 months, with a possible extension.   The project manager will help with assessing rack locations, coordinating installation of the racks and bikes, marketing, membership, etc.   Qualifications include experience with bicycling, downtown DC, permitting, utilities, marketing, coordinating among stakeholders, managing projects, and meeting deadlines.
